Finding Woodworking Projects and Plans for Beginners Dog Furniture Plans

Woodworking as a hobby may be among the most rewarding experiences you will ever enjoy. You can get started on a shoestring with a minimal amount of gear and equipment. A small home workshop can produce a wide array of simple projects which will allow you to develop your creative and construction abilities while rewarding you with practical and artistic wood products which you are able to enjoy and even give away to friends and family.

WHERE TO DO YOUR WOODWORKING

Before we get into the equipment you should begin with, let us discuss where you will perform your woodworking, Depending on the size of your home, you may have the ability to produce a dedicated space into your woodworking activities. This might be a reserved place on your garage or in your cellar. In some cases, a detached shed or outbuilding may be perfect to set up your first shop. A heated store detached from your home offers one distinct advantage: better pest management. Without sophisticated dust control methods, basement assignments will inevitably create dust which travels into the living area of your home. This is very true in homes with forced air heating systems where cold air returns located in the cellar draw dust up into the upper levels of the home. Another benefit of detached workshops would be, clearly, the noise level. It’s possible to work without disturbing the remainder of the family. A fantastic compromise could be the garage of your home.

This can help minimize the problems of dust and noise, however depending on where you live, a keyword garage workshop may not be practical during extremes of hot or cold weather.

YOUR WOODWORKING SETUP

Space is obviously a struggle for the woodworker. Irrespective of where you are in your evolution, everybody from beginner to expert all wishes that they add more space to function in. Dog Furniture Plans if you can have a dedicated spot for a marathon all the greater. Floor tools and bench top equipment can stay in place from project to project. If this setup isn’t impossible, at least attempt to create a bench area where equipment can be saved and pulled out as needed. If at all possible plan for inevitable growth as you acquire more tools and gear. In the beginning, set up a bench area where you can store and use most of your equipment, with a temporary expansion of your actions onto the garage or basement floor.

A rudimentary workbench could be constructed from cheap spruce lumber ideally at least 48 to 54 inches wide and 32 inches deep. |} The seat needs to be about waist height. Insert a sturdy shelf beneath the seat to house your hand power tools along with a pegboard over the seat to hang other equipment. Install a woodworking vice at one end of the bench on front to maintain small workpieces.

ACQUIRING YOUR EQUIPMENT, Dog Furniture Plans

The reach of your startup equipment will be largely based on your budget. Whether you have got large financial resources or you are starting on a shoestring always buy quality equipment. If you can afford it, buy your quality tools at your local construction and hardware centre. If your budget is tight purchase quality used tools from the others through Kijiji or other regional ads. You will find plenty of quality gently used tools out there which belong to people who stumbled on that one molding project around the home or received tools as gifts that they won’t ever use. You can usually buy tools for these sellers for under half of the initial cost and save even more money if you make a package deal for all their unused equipment. Obviously, acquiring tools from private people will require extra time and perhaps travel expenditures. Weigh the advantages of traveling around town to save a few extra bucks on a inexpensive piece of equipment. The extra cost of time and travel in these scenarios is usually justified when buying large ticket items like table saws, bandsaws or large finished tools such as surface planers in the future.
For smaller acquisitions, a trip to your construction center could possibly be the best approach.

START-UP EQUIPMENT

In earlier times skilled employees worked with a minimal amount of hand equipment yet generated sophisticated and complex pieces. Focus on developing your skills with your start-up set of tools and prevent lamenting about the gear you wished you’d.
Here is a checklist of the useful tools you’ll need to get started:
Safety Equipment: Start as anticipated with eye protection. Get a nice pair of safety glasses that also offer some side protection to your eyes. Purchase a quality acrylic collection that’ll be scratch resistant. Progressive scratching of cheaper plastic pairs will gradually hamper your vision and influence safety. Avoid wearing gloves in a workshop. Most impair vision and dust up fast. You may avoid wearing all of them together in the event that you find them uncomfortable.

The next piece of critical safety gear you’ll need entails ear protection. Ear protection is often overlooked by the novice woodworker however is almost as critical as eye protection. Woodworking can be long-term and noisy exposure to these noise levels may affect hearing and lead to tinnitus and other hearing losses. I also find that wearing hearing protection combats exhaustion.

Most employees tire faster when exposed to elevated noise levels. Last, put on a cap to keep the dust from your hair. I prefer a very simple ball cap with my ear muffs and eye protection. I’m keeping the dust out of my hair. I am all set!

Power Hand Saw: Often referred to as a skill saw following the popular name, this can end up being the most versatile instrument in a startup workshop. In reality, in the hands of a professional, a power hand saw could be employed to construct an whole house. At some point, you are going to want to buy a table saw, but for now, a power hand saw for the woodworker on a funding empowers him to do cross cuts, tear cuts and even intricate angle cuts. As mentioned before get a quality brand saw. Avoid cheap unknown brands. These tend to cut back and will burn out before you start your second project. After choosing the right saw put in a quality blade. Most saws come with a starter blade of lesser quality even if they are a good saw. Keep this blade for a copy and put in a quality blade with carbide teeth. Begin with a hybrid blade. These have a balanced tooth count which works well with both crosscuts and ripping.

Power Jig Saw: A jigsaw will add great flexibility to a woodworking. |} Curved cutting is the point where the jigsaw excels. This flexible instrument cannot just cut corners. It is ideal for cutting holes in timber also like handle slots. At some point, you’re going to want to obtain a band saw. Bandsaws are much more versatile but a excellent floor unit can be expensive. A jigsaw can be a fantastic stop gap to the novice woodworker.

Purchase an range of blades to your own jigsaw that includes various lengths and teeth per inch.

Battery Powered Drill: buy an excellent drill which runs on at 12 volts, however, 18 volts is better. |} Get one with a keyless chuck and if it’s in your budget contemplate a 1/2 inch toss over the conventional 3/8 inch model. Down the road, the 1/2 inch version will prove to be more versatile. Through hard lessons learned, I have discovered that purchasing quality, in this case, is much more critical than ever. Cheaper drills tend to have very short run times and have to be recharged frequently. Their battery life tends to be poor and to make things worse keyless chucks come loose and slip frequently. This is one annoyance you don’t need on your workshop. Purchase an assortment of quality carbide tipped drill bits that are kept in a holder labeling each drill bit size. Make a habit of returning each drill piece to its prospective slot at the holder after each use. Lastly, get a set of tough steel driver bits. Your drill may also be a flexible screwdriver, particularly if you selected an 18-volt version.

Hammer: The hammer stays as the most versatile instrument in the shop, and often the most misunderstood one. |} Incidentally, the hammer is the 1 instrument where most workshop accidents occur. Although the most ordinary, hammer injuries are usually of a minor character, varying from bruised palms into the temporary loss of a fingernail. Hammers greatly vary in price and quality. So what is the difference between a cheap hammer and an expensive hammer? Quality hammers are precisely machined with a fantastic solid joint between the handle and head. The good hammer is balanced, doesn’t rust and comes with a comfortable handle. Many hammers in the high tech range provide metal or fiberglass handles. Cheaper hammers generally have wood grips with inferior joints between the head and handle. The mind usually comes loose and the tool becomes useless. Pick a name brand quality hammer at the 16-ounce range for overall work and also a smaller finishing hammer for more intricate work. Avoid using large framing hammers in the workshop and any with dimpled mind tips. These kinds of hammers are more appropriate for rough framing jobs and therefore are unsuitable from the workshop.

Palm Sander: Purchase a 1/4 sheet . This tiny power tool can handle just about any trimming requirements that you’ve got as a beginner woodworker. As your woodworking abilities evolve, you will likely update to a floor model disk and belt sander. But for the time being, the ever-versatile palm sander may clean up borders, cross cuts and even limited amounts of surface area. As you embark on your first few projects you’ll find that your palm sander with a bit of effort can transform rough looking inventions into virtual functions of art! It is possible to use your palm sander to sand and form rough boards with 100 grit paper and after finish your job with 200 or 300 grit paper. Purchase an range of sandpaper sheets using an excess source of 100 grit paper. You’ll get that this grade of paper the most versatile in your store.

Hand Planes and Chisels: These traditional tools are a must in every workshop. |} Though low tech in theory, these tools enable you to taper edges, flatten high spots and fix any imperfections in timber bits. {Begin with a typical amount 4 plane and an range of quality chisels varying in width from 1/4 inch to 1 inch.

Clamps: Sooner or later you’ll want pliers for glue-ups and simply to hold off your wood pieces as you operate on them. Unfortunately, good clamps are costly and it normally requires the novice woodworker a couple of years to collect a comprehensive set of timber clamps. Start with a set of extended”pipe” clamps. Now the pipe has been replaced with extended steel shafts, however, the structure remains the same. Receive a pair of the longest clamps which you can spend. You may contact them for smaller adhesive jobs and enlarge them to their full length for larger projects.

Shop Vice: A store vice installed in the end of your bench is perfect for holding smaller tasks for sanding, filing, and gap cutting with your jigsaw. Purchase a woodworking with stainless steel clamping surfaces and prevent metal working vices with steel jaws. Woodworking vices using their timber clamping surfaces may securely hold wood bits without marring or damaging them. A number of the greater vices offer you rapid release mechanisms that enabled the consumer to rapidly open and close the limbs without dull handle rotation. The wood clamping surfaces in your vice will periodically require replacement. I would rather use soft walnut in my vices that won’t crush or damage lots of the different forests that I work with. Whether I’m working in soft pine or hard oak, softwood clamping surfaces work the best.

Tape Measure and Marking Device: In your workshop, the ever-humble tape step is going to be among the most frequently used tools. Buy a good excellent name brand tape measure with a broad tape typically from the 25-foot range. Although in your shop you might not use the tape at these spans, the bigger tape measures provide more rigid tapes that will not flop around and slip off the ending of boards. Assessing when you are on your own will be a great deal simpler, and naturally, quality tape steps can last for many years.

When marking jobs, I favor a sharp good old-fashioned HB pencil. An HB pencil will generate a nice mark without scratching the wood.

  • Storage tips for wine collectors

PASO ROBLES, Calif. - Allegretto Wines, a single vineyard winemaker in Paso Robles, California,  released the report ‘Storage Tips for Wine Collectors,’ providing tips on storage space, storage methods, the best temperatures for storing and serving, and creative ideas for building a wine cellar on a budget.

“One of the conversation topics in our tasting room is the best storage methods for wine,” said Quin Cody, Director of Hospitality, “the tips in this report are going to help answer some of those questions.”

Following are four tips on the best methods of storing wine:

    Figuring out storage space

The storage space needed depends on the number of bottles you on hand, or already have but don’t have adequate space. Buying a wine refrigerator is a common solution to storing wine, but sometimes the wine refrigerator may cost more than the family budget allows.

There are options for adding or increasing wine cellar space that include re-purposing a closet or cabinet or even adding a “wine room” in the garage. But before getting into remodeling ideas, you still need to know how many bottles you want to have available. Here is a quick estimate (based on ceilings that are nine feet high):

500 bottles or less needs about 25 square feet of space
1,000 bottles would use 50 square feet

It might seem that 500 bottles are a lot of wine, but a single person enjoying a bottle with dinner three or four nights a week adds up to more than 200 bottles a year. Figure in what is shared with dinner guests and gifted to friends and family. If you entertain frequently you can reach 500 bottles a year easily.

The space calculations need to include wines that are being allowed to age, those you are keeping for special occasions and those you will be drinking soon. Once the storage space is figured out, decide on the best affordable storage method that is going to meet the temperature and humidity needs of your special wines.

    Temperature, UV light, and humidity

Wine is typically stored at one temperature and served at a different temperature. The ideal storage temperature for most reds and whites is 55 degrees. Serving temperatures vary by the wine:

Traditionally, red wines were served at room temperature, but the modern-day thermostat means homes are kept at a variety of temperatures for personal comfort. The ideal serving temperature for red wine is from 60 - 65 degrees F.

White wines are best served slightly chilled between 50 - 60 degrees.

Sparkling wines and champagne usually taste best chilled to around 40 degrees.

The kitchen refrigerator temperature is usually at around 40 degrees F. Too cold to store wine but a good temperature to chill a sparkling wine. Not sure when the wine has reached the appropriate serving temperature? Use an inexpensive wine bottle thermometer to know when the bottle is ready to pour.

    UV rays and humidity

UV rays cause chemical reactions that can change a wine’s flavor and color in unfavorable ways. Keep your wine collection out of the sunlight.

Wines with cork closures need sufficient humidity at around 70-percent to keep the corks moist and expanded so some kind of humidity control is important. Store corked wines on their sides to help keep the cork moist. Screw top bottles don’t require the same kind of humidity control, but since most people collect both corked and screw-topped wines these days, humidity control is the best way to go.

    Building a ‘cellar’

Wine coolers, or refrigerators, start at around $200 for 20 or so bottles of wine and price upwards from there. When space is an option, some wine refrigerators can be stored in closets or in the garage and this works perfectly for many people. Some collectors want a more formal “cellar.” Remodeling closets, under stair spaces, kitchens, and garages are becoming popular ways to create dedicated wine storage. There are several good do-it-yourself sources on the Internet or give your local construction company a call for an estimate.

If you are collecting as an investment, leasing commercial wine storage is a safe way to protect your investment.

  • Sustainability challenges to be discussed at Decorative Surfaces Conference

Today the demand for natural resources and the production of pollution exceed the regenerative capacity of the Earth and put us face to face with one of the biggest challenges of our time: moving towards a sustainable economy. But what does sustainability mean? Despite its simplicity, sustainability is a concept people have a hard time wrapping their minds around: Is it all about recycling? Are “green” or “natural” synonyms for “sustainable”? And last but not least: how can sustainability be addressed in the laminates industry? Does durability play a role there? Let's dig into those questions and debunk some myths.  Dr. Alessandra Fusi, Sustainability specialist with Trespa and Arpa will address all of these questons in her presentation, "Facing the Sustainability Challenge: What Cards Can Our Industry Play?"

  • Learn about American Woodmark's foray into RFID

ATLANTA, GA -- According to Henry Nisiobincki, the idea that each item is unique in woodworking holds true more than in any other industry. Nisiobincki, RFID Program Manager at American Woodwork Corporation, faced this challenge as he guided the company to benefit from RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology.

"The questions we asked were, how could we identify the unique history of each unique part?  And how can we use that information to help measure quality, control process flows, and improve inventory accuracy?"

Nisiobincki said that by using integrated RFID technology to create a unique identity for each piece, American Woodmark Corporation has seen continuous benefit and value.  He will show how a simple low-cost addition to each piece can be the solution for endless cost-savings, as well as the platform for future innovation.  He will discuss American Woodmark's RFID integration  in his presentation at IWF on August 21, titled,  A Unique Technology, in a Unique Part, for a Unique Industry. His session is part of the all-day Woodworking Network Leadership Forum.  The Leadership Forum is sponsored by J B Cutting.

At American Woodmark Corporation, Nisiobincki manages the RFID Program from a corporate level. He works closely with  the organization's manufacturing plants to understand processes, identify key issues, and develop unique and innovative RFID technology solutions to relieve those issues. His career at American Woodmark started in IT Development and IT Project Management before transitioning into RFID. He said  is excited to share the unique and extensive application of RFID at IWF.

The targeted audience for this session includes: C-Level management, rising stars and innovators from across the wood products industry including CEO’s, owners, team managers and entrepreneurs and investors.  Registration for the Woodworking Network Leadership Forum is $395 until August 1 and $450 thereafter.  Lunch and admission to the Leadership Reception following the symposia are included.

Regency Furniture Stadium

Regency Furniture Stadium is a 4,200-seat baseball park in Waldorf, Maryland that hosted its first regular season baseball game on May 2, 2008, as the tenants of the facility, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers, 3-2. For the 2010 baseball season, the collegiate summer Southern Maryland Nationals of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League will play select games at the venue. The CRSCBL previously used Regency Furniture for the Mid-Atlantic Classic (see below). With the groundbreaking for Southern Maryland's new stadium, a local company, Regency Furniture, purchased the naming rights for $2.88 million over 10 years.[1]

Regency Furniture Stadium is capped by sloping red roofs, similar to the architecture of Churchill Downs, designed to pay homage to the Southern Maryland region's tobacco barns.[2] The left field wall of the ballpark bears a door that allows players to enter the field from the locker room, modeled after the Green Monster at Fenway Park.[3]

In 1985, Charles County initiated plans to build a ballpark for the relocated Kinston Indians of the Carolina League. Construction workers even cleared trees to prepare the site, however, the ballpark planning eventually fell through. After county commissioners balked on the construction, $500,000 in public funds were paid to cancel signed contracts and undo the progress made during site preparation. The A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians remained in Kinston, and the Southern Maryland region was without a professional baseball team for another 23 years.[4]
